Gane una semana en La Toscana

Getting one up on my father is a nearly impossible task. He hides a cunning wit with his endless charm and elegant facade, effectively allowing him to get away with murder. He and my father-in-law have a decade old battle over who will pick up the check for meals, with my dad once informing a maître de that, sadly, my father-in-laws credit card had recently been declined ("Poor man, it's quite embarrassing, you should take my card to avoid another scene!"). On our first night in Florence, my family went to Trattoria del Pennello a small family run restaurant, slightly off the beaten oath near the Campo. The food was beyond compare, and we ordered 2 courses more than we planned as we couldn't get enough of the atmosphere, the food or the wine. When the check came, the waiter just smiled at my dad and handed him an envelope (which my husband had surreptitiously give the waiter, along with cash, when we walked in). Inside was a card from my father-in-law saying, "This one's on me!" My father was speechless! Although a thousand miles away, his rival had secured the victory! And in that tiny tatorria, among the roar of laughter from the propriator, my dad lost a good natured battle in what then became a the international war to pay the bill (one that has since been fought across the USA and Britain!)!
